Questions

What is IRR?

IRR (internal rate of return) is the one yearly rate that links every premium you pay to every amount you get back, taking the timing into account. It lets you compare a policy with an FD, PPF or any other option on the same scale.

Why is my IRR lower than the rate the agent told me?

Many illustrations show a simple or average return, or count premiums at the end of the year. This calculator counts premiums at the start of each year, as you actually pay them, which gives the realistic figure.

Where do I find these numbers?

In the benefit illustration (BI) given with the quote or policy. Take the premium, the number of years you pay, and the guaranteed income and maturity amounts by policy year.

Is the maturity of my policy tax-free?

For policies bought on or after 1 April 2023, maturity is tax-free only if the total yearly premium of all such traditional policies is up to ₹5 lakh. For ULIPs bought on or after 1 February 2021, the limit is ₹2.5 lakh. The premium must also be within 10% of the life cover. Death benefit stays tax-free. The calculator checks this from the details you enter.

Is this calculator a guarantee?

No. It works only on the figures you enter. Bonus and market-linked figures are illustrations. Please read the policy terms, and book a consultation if you want your plan compared across insurers.
